Description

The term "cardiometabolic risk" (CMR) describes a cluster of some risk factors that, when viewed together, are very strong predictors of the overall risk of developing heart disease and type 2 diabetes. These risk factors include obesity, high LDL cholesterol, high triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, and physical inactivity. Each of these risk factors poses a real danger to good health, and the more one has, the greater the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Using this model as a basis for overall health management, the Cardiometabolic Risks Initiative should serve as a national effort focused on encouraging health care providers and the general public to focus on the prevention, recognition and treatment of all risk factors, helping patients achieve better health outcomes.

Cardiometabolic Risks Initiative will be the main theme of our well known event “ Pan Arab Conference on Diabetes PACD in its 13th year where the objective is to gather together all those interested in this area of medical knowledge – Diabetologists ,endocrinologists , cardiologists, internists, basic scientists , geneticists , epidemiologists, nurses, nutritionists and others – so that they can share new insights and thus contribute to improving the care of patients, which is our primary mission. To this end, since 1997 we have held a large Meeting every year to provide an extensive update of all recent advances at basic and clinical levels. The next Meeting, PACD 14 Diabetes 2010, will be held in the beautiful city of Cairo, the oldest city in the region “where the Nile is about to bifurcate before it ends ”.We warmly invite you to come and participate in this Meeting, and share with us the joy of an exciting and challenging scientific programme, as well as the beauty of the enchanting city of Cairo – a mix of the old and the new. We look forward to meeting you in Cairo in March 2010.
