Ladies and Gentlemen,

The social impact of medical sleep disorders in children and adolescents is seen in Germany is not sufficient.

Even the regulatory disorders in infancy have an impact on the sleep-wake cycle of the child, but also on the sleep-wake behavior of their parents, with limitations of daily activities, professionally, and the risk of mental disorders. Consequences of sleep disorders in school age affect the learning of children in a phase which is crucial for the further intellectual development.

Comorbidity of sleep disorders such as hyperactivity and emotional problems affect not only the affected children but can also have negative consequences within the classroom community have and will require a more intensive educational use. Increasing media activities, alcohol and drug use by children and adolescents conducive not only a social dislocation but also a complete disorganization of the rhythm of life.

Against the background of these issues raises the question of the need for early positive ground-saving educational activities. Here, early action is given in order to avoid consequences for the individual and our society in the form of physical and mental illness, and psychosocial problems.

On our next spring meeting of the Working Group of the Pediatric DGSM we want to discuss these issues extensively and competently. In addition, methodological issues, therapeutic approaches, current issues face the SID issue and included an intensive discussion with industry and medical technology.
