Objectives Of The AUMC

1-     Establishment of a fungal culture collection (bank) including fungi isolated from different sources and habitats in Egypt and other Arab countries. The culture collection (bank) comprises at present more than 4000 cultures belonging to more than 400 species, and it is planned to be a national and regional culture collection (bank).

2-   Conduction of research in taxonomy and biodiversity of fungi, and assistance in research dealing with other related fields e.g. Biotechnology, and Plant,    Human and Animal Pathology.

3- Establishment of a herbarium containing dry fungal cultures and specimens of plant materials infected with fungi , in addition to permanen microscopic slides of these fungi

4- Establishment of a library comprising references in taxonomy and biodiversity of fungi.

5- Exchange of fungal cultures with international mycological centres.

6- Arrangement of training courses and workshops for persons who are interested in isolation and identification of fungi.

7- Identification services for researchers. Fees are determined by AUMC.

8- Provision of cultures for persons and institutes. Prices are determined by AUMC.

9- Issue of periodical publications providing illustrative descriptions, occurrence, and economic significance of common fungi in Egypt and other Arab Countries.

10- Issue of the Journal of Basic and Applied Mycology which publishes original papers in the various fields of basic and applied mycology.
