Penn State Teaching ESL Specialist Certificate Program with an Ecuador Immersion Experience

Penn State will offer a unique Teaching ESL certificate program in 2010. Teachers will spend a month in Ecuador engaging in practice teaching with Ecuadorian young people. This overseas experience complements on-campus weekend courses at Penn StateÂ’s University Park campus. The weekend courses and June immersion experience are designed with the teacherÂ’s work schedule in mind.

Participants gain cultural experience and study Spanish in addition to college courses in ESL teaching methods, linguistics and second language/cultural learning. No previous experience with foreign language learning is needed as all certificate courses are conducted in English. The certificate program is open to student-teachers and teachers from across the state and is approved by the Pennsylvania Dept. of Education.
