Description
Growing Beyond Oil: Sustainable Growth For Canada
What a difference a year makes.
Last year, we gathered at the Canadian Renewable Fuels (CRFA) summit in the face of record high oil prices, a healthy world economy, heated public debates, and hopes for a new federally legislated Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).
Today, the speculative oil bubble has burst and prices have fallen by more than half. The world economy is struggling, arguments about food vs fuel and environmental benefits have been countered with cold hard facts, and the new RFS is in force as law.
What remains unchanged is that the world must still find a way to grow beyond oil. And that must be done in a way that offers sustainable growth for Canada – measured in economic, environmental and social terms.
This year’s summit will focus on how we ensure that ambition is achieved. Discussions will include: the new Canada-US Clean Energy Dialogue, moving toward second generation biofuels, low carbon fuel standards, and prospects to strengthen our sector’s economic outlook.
As world economies seek to exit the current severe downturn, creating green jobs and growth will become an even greater focus for policymakers and the public. Our industry has a huge role to play, and we are determined to ensure our interests are advanced.
Welcome to Vancouver, and thank you for taking part in the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association annual Summit.
